Tiger Project Supports GLNP Ecosystem Restoration
Sumatran Tiger Project supported plan of Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) to restore ecosystem in GLNP. In inaugural meeting held today, Thursday, July 11, 2019, GLNP office identified critical lands in GLNP area in Kutacane Region-II BPTN. Restoration will be carried out through a role model scheme.
Gunung Leuser National Park involved stakeholders in management area and restoration partners in TNGL in this meeting.
Balai will also identify TNGL partners for ecosystem restoration in TNGL in Kutacane Region-II BPTN, supported by other donors, from presentation by invited partners.
In this event, GLNP will decide partner agency in restoration project which supported by Sumatran Tiger Project (GEF-UNDP), Head of GLNP will give technical consideration agreed by PMU Sumatran Tiger Project and / or representatives from UNDP Indonesia.
The meeting will formulate stages of restoration process and role division between partners and GLNP, for mutually agreed locations. The area restoration (ecosystem restoration) activity in the Gunung Leuser National Park is part of efforts to restore and conserve the habitat of Sumatran tigers and other wild animals which are priority work of Directorate General of Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems – Ministry of Environment and Forestry, which requires support from other parties to create immediate impact for the ecosystem.
